Accuracy and Service Disclaimer
Words Calculator explains its rules and assumptions, but no general-purpose text tool can guarantee agreement with every file, platform, institution, or human reviewer.
Reviewed
Exact counts follow our published method. Estimates and extracted text require judgment. Verify important work in the destination system and inspect the preview, scope, warnings, and assumptions shown with the result.
Counting definitions differ
Words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, lines, syllables, and repeated phrases do not have one universal software definition. Microsoft Word, Google Docs, learning platforms, publishers, social networks, and programming environments can treat apostrophes, compounds, URLs, emoji, whitespace, headers, notes, hidden content, and revision markup differently. Our current rules are documented on How we count.
Document extraction has boundaries
The browser-side document tool can analyze only text that its parser can expose. An image-only scan has no words until OCR creates a text layer. PDF columns, tables, footnotes, mathematical notation, and positioned text can appear in a different reading order. Word processors can store body text, notes, headers, footers, fields, and text boxes separately. Encrypted, damaged, unsupported, or unusually complex files may fail rather than produce a misleading total.
Webpage extraction is not a browser view
The Web Page Word Counter retrieves bounded, public server-delivered HTML without your login, cookies, location, or personalized browser state. It does not bypass robots rules, paywalls, access controls, or private networks. Text rendered later by JavaScript, hidden behind interaction, inserted by personalization, or supplied from another API may be absent. The extracted preview is the evidence of what entered the count.
Readability and language limits
Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level use sentence length and estimated English syllables. They describe surface difficulty, not factual accuracy, age suitability, disability access, tone, cultural clarity, educational quality, or whether a reader understood the text. Scores are withheld when the sample is too short or unsuitable for the English formula, but even a displayed score needs human interpretation.
Time and page estimates
Reading, speaking, and handwriting times depend on the selected rate and the individual. Words-per-page estimates depend on paper size, margins, font family, font size, spacing, paragraph structure, headings, tables, figures, citations, manual breaks, printer metrics, and layout software. A PDF can provide a fixed page count; a flowing document cannot be assigned an exact page total without reproducing its layout.
Similarity, keyword, and language evidence
Text similarity and change percentages are determined by the selected comparison unit and ignore rules. Keyword frequency reports repetition, not search quality. Random words come from a curated pool rather than a complete dictionary. Number wording follows the selected convention and currency settings. Capitalization, title case, and cleanup cannot always infer names, acronyms, quotations, code, or editorial intent.
Platform presets can change
Character-limit presets distinguish hard limits, display guidance, and recommendations and link to a primary source where practical. Platforms can revise a rule after its verification date, apply different limits by account or surface, count Unicode differently, or reject content for unrelated reasons. The destination interface and its current official documentation control a real submission.
Exports and browser capabilities
TXT intentionally removes rich formatting. PDF, DOCX, and HTML exports preserve the supported subset shown by the editor, but a receiving application can substitute fonts, reflow pages, alter line breaks, or ignore unsupported styling. Clipboard, file, share, and download actions also depend on browser permissions and device support.
No guaranteed outcome or professional advice
Words Calculator does not guarantee acceptance, grades, publication, accessibility conformance, originality, authorship, legal compliance, translation pricing, advertising approval, traffic, or search ranking. It is not a substitute for legal, medical, financial, academic, accessibility, security, or other qualified professional advice.
Availability and external sources
A tool can be interrupted by a browser limitation, network failure, maintenance, hosting limit, upstream font service, or destination server. External links are provided so readers can verify a rule, but Words Calculator does not control those sources or promise that they remain unchanged.
